The existence of such a large number of web sites and, in this case, of sites dedicated to history in Italy, require us all to consider methods of evaluating the quality of these sites, their standards and the correctness of their content. This need is based on the most recent research into multimedia documents for study and research. Recent interpretations of multimedia studies, dealing in particular with the Internet, have underlined the need for regulation and cataloguing of the web sites which have historical subject matter, so that users are able to access information more efficiently. It is, therefore, important to adopt a code of practice which will elicit trust from readers and at the same time protect our respectability as a research community.
