Der Kurs besteht aus Lehrveranstaltungen, Übungen und Diskussionen;
vorgesehen ist auch die Vorstellung der wissenschaftlichen Arbeiten der
einzelnen Teilnehmer. Die Bibliothek bietet zwanzig Diplomanden und
Doktoranden aus dem In- und Ausland die Möglichkeit der Teilnahme und
übernimmt die Kosten für Übernachtung und Frühstück.
The course consists of taught seminars, workshops and discussions;
participants will also have an opportunity to present their own research
projects.The library offers free accomodation and breakfast for twenty
advanced or graduate students from Germany and abroad. There is no
additional fee.
Cette école d'été comprendra des enseignements, des exercices et des
séminaires au cours desquels les doctorants auront la possibilité de
présenter leur propre projet de recherche. La Bibliothèque de Wolfenbüttel
offre à vingt doctorants ou jeunes chercheurs engagés dans un DEA,
provenant d'universités et de centres de recherche en Allemagne ou à
l'étranger, de participer à cette école et couvrira, pour les candidats
retenus, les frais de séjour (petit-déjeuner compris). Pour les doctorants
français sélectionnés, la Mission Historique Française en Allemagne de
Göttingen (Hermann-Föge-Weg 12, D-37073 GÖTTINGEN, tel : (00 49) [0]551 552
13 et mhfa@mhfa.mpg.de) pourrait intervenir financièrement en allouant au
jeune chercheur un complément destiné à couvrir ses frais de voyage et les
dépenses locales de repas. Un tel séjour de quatre semaines sur place
permettra aux participants de se familiariser avec une recherce conduite
sur un plan international et de se familiariser avec la Bibliothèque de
Wolfenbüttel qui rassemble une des collections les plus riches de fonds
anciens d'Allemagne, non seulement en langue allemande mais également en
latin, français, italien et anglais.

The Summer Course Theme
Die philosophische und theologische Literatur des 15. Jahrhunderts wurde in
der Herzog August Bibliothek frühzeitig gründlich gesammelt, weil sie zu
den kanonischen Texten des Reformationszeitalters und der
wissenschaftlichen Neuorientierung im 16./17. Jahrhundert gehörte. Auch die
neuere Forschungsliteratur hierzu wird regelmäßig erworben. Im 15.
Jahrhundert, als in Italien die Zentren der philosophisch-theologischen
Diskussion lagen, entstanden die Werke, die die Reformation und die neue
Wissenschaft vorbereiteten, hierzu seien als Beispiele nur die Ausgaben der
Werke Platons und Plotins, die Verbreitung der hermetischen,
kabbalistischen, arabischen und anderen orientalischen Schriften und das
Unionskonzil von Florenz genannt. In der neueren historischen Forschung ist
die Bedeutung der Theologie und der Religion für die Entstehung der Moderne
in den Blick gerückt (z.B. Konfessionalisierungsdebatte). Daher ist es
sinnvoll, junge Wissenschaftler mit der Einheit und Differenzierung von
Theologie und Philosophie in der entscheidenden italienischen Renaissance
vertraut zu machen. Dadurch erhält der Blick auf diese allen Kunst- und
Literaturhistorikern vertraute Epoche eine besondere Perspektive, die auch
die übrige historische Forschung beeinflussen wird.
Because its texts were canonical for the era of the Reformation and for the
scientific revolutions of the 16th and 17th centuries the philosophical and
theological literature of the 15th century was collected on a broad scale
from the earliest days of the Wolfenbüttel library, which was founded in
1572. Secondary works in this field were also continuously acquired. The
works which paved the way for the Reformation and New Science were written
in the 15th century, when the centres of philosophical and theological
debate were located in Italy  - examples are the editions of the works of
Plato and Plotin, the dissemination of hermetic, cabbalistic, Arabic and
other Oriental writings, or the Council of Florence on Church Unity. Recent
historical research has focussed attention on the role of theology and
religion for the development of modernity (eg. the confessionalization
debate). It is therefore logical to confront young scholars with both the
unifying and the diverging aspects of theology and philosophy in the
Italian Renaisaance. This approach will offer a broad perspective to
historians of art and literature on an era to which they are so familiar,
as well as to those from other disciplines.
